Now that we know the different types of fractions, we can convert them from proper fractions to decimals or percentages, and vice versa.
Converting common fractions to decimals and vice versa
Proper fractions to decimals
To convert a common fraction to a decimal, there are two methods commonly used for manual calculations, such as:
1 The first method is to convert it to a fraction with a denominator of 10, 100, or any other denominator that is a square of 10.
Example: The decimal form of the fraction 25 is…
Since 5 is a factor of 10, change the denominator to 10.
2
The second method is to divide the numerator by the denominator using long division.
Example: The decimal form of the fraction 25 is…
1. Write the fraction in long division form.
5⟌2
2. 2 is not divisible by 5, so write a 0 above the division sign and a 0 after the number 2.
⟌
0.
20
3. Perform the division as usual, so that you get.
⟌
0.4
20
20
0
So we get 25 = 0.4
Decimals to proper fractions
To convert a decimal to a common fraction, you can use the simple method that is, by converting the decimal to a fraction with a denominator of 10, 100, 1000, and so on, follow these steps:
a If there is one digit after the decimal point, convert it to tenths.
Example:
b If there are two digits after the decimal point, convert them to per hundred, and so on.

Proper fractions to percentages
To convert a common fraction to a percentage, first find a fraction with a denominator of 100; see the example below.
Examples:
Percentages to proper fractions
To convert a percentage to a common fraction, convert the percentage to a common fraction with a denominator of 100, then simplify it to its simplest form by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and the denominator.
