## Fraction Simplifier Online and how to Simplifying Fractions

### Simplify Fraction

• F

To simplify a fraction, we need to find the greatest common factor between numerator and denominator and divide both numbers with it.

Example:
 15 25
• 1

Get the greatest common factor (GCF)

The greatest common factor in this example is 5

• 2

Divide the numerator and the denominator by the greatest common factor.

 15 25
=
 15 ÷ 5 25 ÷ 5
=
 3 5

### Simplify Improper Fraction

• F

When we have the numerator bigger than the denominator in a fraction, that is called an improper fraction.

Example:
 a b
=
 16 9
on simplifying =
m
 c b

Simplify an improper fraction, simple by converting it to a mixed fraction.

m (whole number) = a ÷ b
c (new numeretor) = a - (m x b)
b (same denominator) = b
Result =
m
 c b
• 1

Divide the numerator with the denominator

 16 9
= 16 ÷ 9 = 1.78
• 2

Round the result of step one to a whole number
example: 1.78 = 1
1 is the part of the mixed number

1
 c b
• 3

Subtract the numerator from the whole number multiplied by the denominator to get the new numerator, and keep the denominator the same.

The new numerator = 16 - (1 x 9) = 7
Result =
1
 7 9

### Simplify Mixed Fraction

• F

There are two possibilities if still need to simplify a mixed fraction. possibility one is the mixed fraction still has a numerator bigger than the denominator. And possibility two if the numerator and the denominator still have a common factor.

Example:
2
 15 25
or
2
 25 15
• 1

In case a common factor still exists, find the greatest common factor and divide numerator and denominator with it.

2
 15 25
= 2 +
 15 ÷ 5 25 ÷ 5
=
2
 3 5

In case the numerator is still bigger than denominator.

2
 25 15
= 2 + (25 ÷ 15 = 1) +
 25 - (1 x 15) 15
=
3
 10 15
